Don't know what the specifics are. However, I stumbled across this today:

"I have run into one problem with Mercurial already. If you store a repository
on a FAT filesystem (my flash drive), it apparently isn't compatible between
Windows and Linux. :-("
Given that one of Mercurial's big selling points is Windows compatibility, I
thought this should get tracked.
