hg qseries -v or similar should output a human-readable overview similar to:

series:
=======
patch A [applied]
patch B [applied, needs refresh]
patch C
patch D

unmaintained:
=============
some_patch_not_in_series

(One may argue about "needs refresh" which was my idea while I typed this.)
