The reality is this simple:
- no one cares enough about it to maintain it
We have 5 years of evidence of that. Here's the last several years of
history:
2011-02-23 hgk: display bookmark in commit diff window (dsp)
2011-02-23 hgk: display bookmarks as gray labels in the commitline (dsp)
2011-02-23 hgk: read bookmarks (dsp)
2011-02-14 hgk: gitk->hgk in About... menu (cibervicho)
2010-10-06 hgk: remember main window position (alexandrul)
2009-12-02 hgk: do not ignore ---/+++ lines in diff (project+hg)
2009-02-16 hgk: select first changeset at startup (issue1382) (mg)
2009-02-09 hgk: added explanation to .hgk for background colour (r)
2009-02-09 hgk: added colour settings for different colours in diff view (r)
2009-02-09 hgk: added setting of foreground colour (r)
2009-02-07 hgk: Add background colour setting (r)
2008-09-15 hgk: Display branch name for each head (issue 740) (msommerville)
2008-03-23 hgk: display orphan revisions content (issue 1041) (pmezard)
2008-01-16 hgk: don't exit if mercurial commands only print warnings (ds)
2008-03-07 Removed trailing spaces from everything except test output (thomas)
2008-01-15 hgk: display branch name in diff header (pmezard)
2007-12-10 hgk: add black and blue as preferred colors (steve)
2007-11-03 hgk: change config file from .gitk to .hgk (bdowning)
2007-04-12 hgk: colorize commits by authors (Georg)
And here's the diffstat:
$ hg diff -r 1.0 contrib/hgk | diffstat
hgk | 246 ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++--------------
1 file changed, 198 insertions(+), 48 deletions(-)
That it works at all with that level of attention is amazing.

Exactly right. I've -never- used hgk so I'm certainly not going to fix
it.
