I would plead with you to instead take up the cause of one of the 'shelve' extensions (shelve or attic). A shelve- or stash-oriented workflow is more in line with Mercurial's general philosophy (commit a consistent, tested snapshot) than an index-oriented approach (build up a partial commit from what's laying around in your working dir). The lack of a _bundled_ equivalent to `git stash` is one of the glaring holes in Mercurial's toolkit right now, and it'd be really nice if we could at least get an extension included, if not moved into core.
