What, everywhere? No... from comparing the patch and the code, I see
that you're only doing this for the 'status' command. But the commit
message didn't say so. It should. You nearly gave me a heart attack,
proposing to do this on stable. ;-)

What's the performance benefit of this? I.e. is there a serious
performance bug that needs to be fixed on stable? Or is this just a
nice little tweak?
