Patches to remove reachable and update branchheads cache on strip()

Hi Matt,
I just sent a new patch to remove reachable and a new version of the patch to update branchheads cache after strip.
Heads up that both involve some fairly subtle code.  I wonder if the reachable  removal patch should get testing or if it's reasonable
to the trained eye.
