An interesting theory, but a resend of the second patch shows up here in
git format:

 http://patchwork.serpentine.com/patch/629/

Patchwork comes from the gitlandia, so we'd expect it to know about git
patches.

Also, the patch linked at the top actually is in patchwork, but you have
to enable "all states" and "archived" patches in the search to find it.
