When issuing a hg pull in a directory where I did not have rights to write to 
.hg I got the following error message:

    abandon : erreur : EOF occurred in violation of protocol (_ssl.c:581)

Fixing the access rights allowed for the pull.

The problem is with the error message: it suggests a violation of some protocol
when the problem is with missing "write" rights to .hg
