Mercurial and Git recursive merge strategy

Would it be of any value to port recursive merge strategy to Mercurial?
It is stronger than the previous Git default - stupid three-way merge.

It should be quite easy to port, because the concepts in Git and
Mercurial are similar and it's also written in Python...
