I wasn't concerned particularly about the merits of hg serve, just 
wondering what the plan was with it ... i do most of my devel on a 
laptop as well, but i just run apache on it as i develop other web stuff 
on it too sometimes ... the only, minor, downside to hg serve is that 
you need to remember to restart the server whenever you update ... by 
running it fresh every time, apache takes care of that for you ...

(noticing your other note as i type this)

i think data_files would do what you want too ... and may not be 2.4 
specific ...
