Is it possible to install inotify extension on normal mercurial? Isit extension, or patch?

Debian has some python-pyinotify package, I did not take a look 
so far. Whether it works, or not, compiling some additional 
python module seems far less invasive than recompiling and 
reinstalling whole mercurial.

If it is really so, then it should be called 'InotifyPatch', 
not 'InotifyExtension' ;-)
