Specifying the remote 'hg' path

Is there any way for the local system to give the path of the remote
hg? For example, when I use a command like:

$ hg in ssh://me@example.com/hg/repos

My problem is that:
1) I don't have root, so have installed mecurial below my home dir.
2) My host executes a jailshell which ignores .bashrc and friends, so
I can't change PATH.

All hg commands to the remote get a "remote: jailshell: hg: command not found".

Any suggestions (which aren't likely to get be thrown off A Small
Orange hosting)?
