it is not ambiguous. it collapses into a very simple case when all
nodes are on the same branch. you then no longer need the
active/inactive distinction which means there is no need for a
--close-branch.

have you tried the bookmarks extension? you can't send bookmarks  info
over the wire, however if can be useful for private development.
