Not true. BSD-licensed X using the python API of a GPL2+ licensed VCS
is certainly a GPL2+ package, and anyone who gets it that way has to
honor that. But BSD-licensed X using the python API of a BSD-licensed
Other VCS is still perfectly fine. You may have to go back to the
original author to get the BSD-licensed version of X (I don't believe
you do: if the sources to X and the VCS are distinct, then you're
still free to distribute X sans VCS from the bundled package. But
IANAL!), but once you have a copy that's not infected, you can release
it for a VCS under a pure BSD license.
