If you mean reStructuredText, you may want to check out
http://bitbucket.org/zondo/hgbook-sphinx.  This is a conversion of the
original LaTeX sources into RST, using a hacked version of the
original Python docs converter script.  (I suggested this RST/Sphinx
option to Bryan at the time, but he'd decided to go with XML by
then.)  I'm not sure that continuing from the hgbook-sphinx repo would
be a good thing: there's more content added in the XML since the LaTeX
version, and in the long run it's probably easier to write a new
converter from the XML.  But it does give you a little preview of what
it might look like.
