Actually it's not exactly right either.  I want scott.palmer with the dot

But the online help isn't clear here:

hg help templates


List of filters:
...
    user        Any text. Returns the user portion of an email address.


My interpretation of "Returns the user portion of an email address" would be the stuff before the @. Splitting on the dot is somewhat arbitrary.

So is it a bug in the implementation or the online help?
