CntrlM(^M) character issue in windows

Hi,
 
     I'm using windows OS. If I open a file in an editor, CntrlM(^M)
character automatically added in the end of all the lines.

     Now i try to get *hg diff*, It shows all the lines are modified due to
this CntrlM(^M) character.

     How to avoid this modifications?
