Not true. Mageia has chosen a 9 months release cycle:

Besides, X11 and Gnome are integrated with the whole system stack, from kernel
to GUI apps. Mercurial is pretty much a standalone piece of software.
(and Python, which it is written in, doesn't follow a 6 months cycle either)
