enabling hg eol results in lots of changed files

Hello!

I'm looking at hgeol to get consistent line endings in our source
code. Due to multiplatform and multi IDE setup this has diverged quite
a bit.

So I enabled hg eol extension, added .hgeol with pattern and did a
clean checkout. Now I see a lot of files with changed line ending.
Just to make sure: This is supposed to happen? Because I expected hg
eol to convert line endings transparently, without explicitly
commiting changed line endings. But I presume this is some kind of an
initial adjustment for all files that match a pattern?

FYI: I tested with tortoise hg 2.0.4 and mercurial 1.8.3 on WindowsXP.
