External paths for subrepositories

I don't know if's the same, but I've been trying to work with several
clones of a subrepository too.  As far as I understand, the paths
handling for push/pull on subrepos (when performed recursively) seems a
tricky business.

However, I do not understand how I am able to control recursive commit
whereas push always recurses without any chance to stop it.  That alone
would allow me to have mirrored experimental branches of both a
repository and its subrepositories.
