If you wanted to get away from google groups, most mail providers,
including gmail, let you add +whatever to the end of your email address and
still receive those emails, so you could register
fritzophrenic+digest at gmail.com to receive digests, and
fritzophrenic at gmail.com to receive the proper emails.
