How to back out qnew?

Ah, ok, I thought . was the 'parent changeset' (I think there is a context
where it means exactly this, isn't there? like in revspec or sth).
So what does ** mean in plain words? Does it mean 'go to repo root and
recurse to all subdirectories'?
