Revision Control for R objects

Good Morning,

I am interested in implementing Mercurial in the context of R programming.
To the extent R scripts are used it is fairly well understood how to
implement Mercurial since these are scripts. However, once the code is
saved inside functions within the R session it is not clear to me how to
control changes made to the functions.
