Question on "hg strip"

Hello,

I have a question on "hg strip"

I've just cloned an SVN repo from SourceForge. Let's say, I received
the whole repo until Rev #345.

Then, just for experimentation, I do an "hg strip" on Rev #340

Afterwards, I tried pulling SF, it does not pull the revisions after
the 'strip point'. That is, Revs #341 up to #345 didn't reappear.

Is this by design?

If so, is there a way to force hg to pull the later revisions?

(I'm just curious; I just really want to understand Mercurial thoroughly).
