How to create a local git clone of a mercurial repo?

What about giving them the content of the .hg/git folder and let those git specialists figure it out? I guess it should be as simple as copying the folder into another repository root, renaming it to ".git", edit the .git/config file to have "bare=false", and do a "git checkout master" to get the working copy again.
