Alternatives to EOL extension

I understand that just doing nothing and then see what happens as you 
and Mads suggested will probably work well, and probably better than I 
remember from the days when I used Subversion and Git (before having 
activated their EOL feature).  ;-)

Still, I would prefer to make sure that mixed line endings cannot creep 
in (not caring for platform-specific EOL *conversions*, just 
consistency), and when I saw that the wiki page about the EOL extension 
mentioned that there are better alternatives without saying what they 
are, I wanted to explore this first before settling for one.
