If you read the last comment from Mads (one of the devs),

"Actually not so easy, if I remember correctly. Especially not to do
cleanly."

So, I might not recommend starting there. Might I suggest looking at one
of these bugs instead:

3718	Change templates to use join() to avoid trailing spaces
2868	aliases should be ignored if the definition == '!'
