Shipped plugins keep working after an update; was: Shipping hg-git by default?

Interestingly I've just had things broken after an update eventually
tracked down to hgsubversion which suse had managed to overwrite with an
old build. It WOULD be helpful if hg-git and hgsubversion could at least
be married more easily to the version of mercurial that need them.
