Soft link broken with mercurial

Hi,

I have a repository where I have created softlinks.

Scenario 1 :

Dir 1
    ---- file 1
    ---- file 2 -> file 1

Scenario 2 :

Dir 1
   --- Dir 2
   --- Dir 3 -> Dir 2

In both scenarios after commit or after taking the patch and applying the patch in another local repository ( same content ), soft link is broken. And if file 2 content is verified, it will show as file 1.
Mercurial version used is Mercurial Distributed SCM (version 2.8.2). Why soft link is broken? Are there any additional changes which we need to do to configure hg?
