Ah thanks, that does indeed make it a bit less convoluted... still not as simple as an alias "email = email --flag whatever" though, IMHO.
And my question still stands: I vaguely understand why we strongly discourage specifying aliases like this in someone's ~/.hgrc, but is this specific alias (repo-only) going to cause trouble?
