Extension "hg-git" interfering with pure Mercurial repositories

Greetings,

after installing and enabling the "hg-git" extension  I observed that it
causes an almost empty directory ".hg/git/" to be created in every plain
Mercurial repository  which is processed  with "hg" commands.   Possibly
not with EVERY "hg" command,  but at least with some.   I've checked the
extension's "README.md" file,  but didn't find a configuration option to
suppress the creation of that directory.

Is there a way to do that?
