I have a drive-by question:  what does "deprecated" actually mean, in Mercurial?

I couldn't easily find documentation on the wiki.

If my memory serves, it means "the command will continue to exist, but
the documentation will be hidden by default". And the command will
*always* exist, since Mercurial has a strong backwards-compatible API
guarantee (and the CLI *is* the API).

Am I wrong on any of that?

I'd like to see a clear document describing that stuff; I'm just
working off of half-remembered mailing list discussion from years ago.
But I couldn't find one.
