ubuntu 24 (and most likely debian 12) does not allow to install evolve

Yes, I was the one to package 10.5 in Debian (and then it found its way 
to Ubuntu), unfortunately I had not a minute to keep it up to date (most 
of the work is pinging people with upload rights until one of them 
becomes available to upload).

I encourage you to file a bug report on Debian bug tracker (and please 
Cc me), stating the hard incompatibility. The package is done according 
to the standards that make bumping the version would be trivial for 
people which are used to the process (automatic update from pypi.org is 
possible).
