It looks like the hash has always been in there (at least since 2006).
In 2009 the branch was added:

In the hash illegal in changelogs?

(I don’t see having to replicate what git does, and having the hash in
there is useful)

That said: you can just copy tthe template file
https://repo.mercurial-scm.org/hg/file/tip/mercurial/templates/map-cmdline.changelog
and remove
\n\t[{node|short}]{tags}{branches}
