Right. I just figured out that for the BASH shell
TMP=$(hg root) hg histedit "$@"

Works, while for the tcsh shell it must be
set TMP='hg root' ; hg histedit $argv


But even though, it still does not work in the emacs file. I will ask
the gurus.
